The play follows Ana, a Korean-American woman who travels to Seoul to scatter her father’s ashes, only to find herself pulled into his memories of war and the history her family never spoke about. My design began with the idea of suspension-how war can suspend time, and how its trauma continues long after the war itself has ended. A seemingly stable hotel room sits within an abstract battlefield, but as Ana moves between the present and her father’s memories, the room physically shifts and the two worlds begin to overlap. The design keeps the war landscape deliberately unspecific, treating the story not only as a history of Korea, but as something that can happen anywhere, at any time.
