Set during Rafael Trujillo’s dictatorship, In the Time of the Butterflies follows the Mirabal sisters, whose resistance led to the murder of Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa and helped ignite a national uprising. The design is rooted in the sisters’ own garden, now preserved as a museum-a space filled with life and joy. At its main part, three tree trunks grow from intertwined roots, carrying the sisters’ bond and shared defiance. After their deaths, petals fall, and hidden lights glow among the flowers. Their absence leaves darkness, but their spirits remain within the garden, turning loss into resistance and hope.
